Strategic Transportation Ltd. operates a fully documented Health, Safety & Environmental Management System built on an Internal Responsibility System β every employee and contractor owns safety.
The STL HSMS is structured around eight key elements that define the processes, resources, and responsibilities necessary to protect our people, contractors, communities, and the natural environment in all Alberta and cross-border operations.
Leadership sets the tone. Safety expectations flow from the top and are enforced at every level.
Pre-job hazard assessments, JSAs, and a hierarchy of hazard controls on every operation.
Documented policies covering fitness for duty, PPE standards, Journey Management, and vehicle operations.
Pre-trip, in-service, and periodic vehicle inspections per NSC Standard 13. Preventive maintenance tracked and documented.
Orientation, site-specific, and job-specific training programs. Competency is tracked, not just recorded.
Documented emergency response plans reviewed at pre-job meetings. All personnel know their role in an emergency.
All incidents and near misses are reported and investigated. Root cause analysis drives corrective actions.
Toolbox talks, post-incident shared learnings, safety records retention, and annual HSMS evaluations.
At STL, Stop Work Authority (SWA) is not just a policy β it is a protected right and an expected responsibility. Any employee or contractor who identifies an unsafe condition or an act that violates our safety standards is required to stop work and report it to their supervisor immediately.
No work resumes until all stop work issues have been adequately resolved. Retaliation or intimidation toward anyone exercising Stop Work Authority is grounds for immediate termination.
Every STL driver operates under a Journey Management Plan (JMP) before leaving the yard. The JMP documents the route, expected check-in times, emergency contact information, and any known hazard conditions along the route.
Route conditions, road bans, weather forecasts, and construction zones are assessed before every departure.
Drivers check in at defined intervals throughout the journey. Missed check-ins trigger an immediate follow-up from dispatch.
Hours of service compliance under federal HOS regulations. Drivers are never pressured to exceed safe driving hours.
Pre-trip inspection per NSC Standard 13. No vehicle leaves without a completed and signed pre-trip inspection form.
All safety documentation is publicly available. Contractors, clients, and site coordinators are encouraged to review these documents before engaging STL services.
Comprehensive HSE guide for all STL personnel and contractors. Covers hazard communication, PPE requirements, Stop Work Authority, WHMIS, TDG, and all site safety protocols.
