Inspections catch problems before they become incidents. STL drivers complete pre-trip, in-service, and periodic vehicle inspections to NSC Standard 13 — documented every time, not just when convenient.
Every dispatch begins with a documented pre-trip inspection covering brakes, lights, tires, coupling devices, cargo securement, and emergency equipment. In-service inspections happen at scheduled intervals during longer hauls. Preventive maintenance is tracked by unit and scheduled proactively — not reactively after a breakdown.
Inspection records are retained and auditable. When a defect is identified, the vehicle does not move until it's corrected or the driver and dispatch agree on a documented risk mitigation. This is non-negotiable — no load is worth dispatching an unsafe unit.
